Films, concerts, and an all-ages Emo Night at the Esplanade

Welcome back to the office; if you’re feeling the itch to do something fun after the brief National Day break, there are a bunch of films and parties to hit up, plus the return of Baybeats and the Singapore Night Festival come the weekend. FILM
The annual open air cinema Films At The Fort (FATF) is back with even more award-winning films, new releases, Singapore premieres and nostalgic classics at the natural amphitheater, Fort Canning Park. You’ll get to enjoy these great films under the stars while munching on some gourmet bites and sipping on some fantastic vino. Through Aug 19

FILM
The thrilling and inspiring true story of Winston Churchill as British Prime Minister navigating turbulent waters during World War II comes to life in Darkest Hour. Gary Oldman in the titular role went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. Aug 13

EXHIBITION
The eighth edition of Singapore Art Museum’s annual family-friendly contemporary art exhibition explores the concept of time. Ten artists and art collectives from around the world have taken over SAM at 8Q for Imaginarium: Into the Space of Time, presenting immersive and interactive installations exploring the tales and theories that shape our memories and future. Through Aug 26

DRINK
Whether you know exactly how to describe its taste (without using the word smooth), or fancy something that’s just easy to drink, Wine Lust 2018 promises to have a little something for everyone. Returning for the second time, Wine Lust presents an outstanding selection of 15 award-winning restaurants, 40 specialist wine events and 500 wine varietals. Through Sep 10

As part of Wine Lust 2018, Stellar at 1-Altitude’s Chef Christopher Miller and Monti’s Chef Felix Cheong come together for a one-night only truffle dinner to showcase the in-season Manjimup black truffles from Australia, and Barolo wines from Renato Corino. Aug 14

COMEDY
Catch everyone's favorite drag queen comedian Kumar as he dishes out his usual antics, politically incorrect rants and Singapore issues-based jokes at Canvas. Aug 14

CONCERT
In a cruel twist of events, Grammy Award-winning English electronic music outfit Clean Bandit had to cancel their one-night-only show on Jan 22 just the night before, because drummer Luke Patterson came down with chickenpox. But they've kept to their word and will be back to perform as part of their "I Miss You Tour 2018". Aug 15

DANCE
Local dance company Maya Dance Theatre returns with the third major production of its five-year, five-act series: PANCHA 3—Flowers Don’t Bloom All The Time takes a sobering look at the realities of coping with sexual and domestic violence in Singapore, navigated sensitively through the medium of contemporary dance. Aug 15-18

CONCERT
He's come a long way from singing theme songs for Channel 8 dramas, but homeboy JJ Lin remembers his roots by bringing his “Sanctuary” World Tour to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for four whole days. Aug 15-19

EXHIBITION
The World’s Loneliest Bookstore explores what the last bookstore on earth would look like in a post-apocalyptic reality; somehow we aren’t surprised that it’ll be at Gillman Barracks. The exhibition presented by Books Actually and DISINI will showcase a selection of titles from local and international authors, plus set the backdrop for book launches, readings and installations throughout the duration of the event. PARTY
Prolific Russian producer DJ Vadim, or Daddy Vad, has performed over 3000 sets in 78 countries and is adding Singapore to the list. He’ll take over Kilo Lounge for one night only with his unique combination of bass culture, reggae, dancehall, Latin, rap and worldly sounds. Aug 16

FILM
Japanese production powerhouse Studio Ghibli’s very first animated film Castle in the Sky remains one of the best films of all time: A young boy Pazu meets the mysterious Sheeta, and the two set off on a high-flying (literally) adventure in search of a castle above the clouds. Aug 16

FOOD
RWS Street Eats, Resorts World Sentosa's own heartland-centric gastronomic affair, returns to the Malaysian Food Street. That's 11 whole days of gorging on some of the best hawkers and eaters from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. Through Aug 19

EXHIBITION
Dutch artist Theo Jansen is sending his prized Strandbeests to our shores. In fact entirely non-living, his world-renowned creatures made of PVC and wood are powered by wind, and spend their days moving gracefully across beaches (hence their name, which translates to “beach animal” in Dutch). Head to the ArtScience Museum for an exclusive look at this new species, where you can look at “fossils” of past beests, and even walk alongside 13 original Strandbeests. Through Sep 30

FESTIVAL
The 17th edition of Esplanade's annual alternative music festival, Baybeats, is back. Aside numerous local and regional bands and musicians performing, they've also teamed up with the peeps behind EMONIGHTSG for a special edition of the raucous party at Esplanade Annexe Studio. This year also marks the last time you'll get to see acts perform at the Powerhouse Stage to make way for the Esplanade's new waterfront theatre. Aug 17-19

PARTY
The aforementioned EMONIGHTSG takes it up a notch with a free-entry, all-ages bash at the Esplanade Annexe Studio for its second anniversary. You might be jostling with some underaged kiddos this time round, but the classic emo screamo tracks from Look Ma, No Hands will all be worth it. Aug 17

PARTY
UK-born, Berlin-based artist Luca Lozano makes his Singapore debut at Headquarters for a night of breakbeat-infused house, colorful synths and bleepy techno. Aug 17

FESTIVAL
It’s that time of the year again—when the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct lights up after the sun goes down for a full week of nocturnal revelry. The Singapore Night Festival is officially back. This year, they’ve gone beyond just local and international artists to include contributions from pretty unexpected individuals too. Aug 17-25

EXHIBITION
2018 has shaped up to be a fantastic year for Marvel. Besides the two epic movies releasing to staggering global success, they're also presenting Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes at ArtScience Museum, which delves into the science and tech behind the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. TOUR
The Singapore Zoo will be transformed into a lush and luminous universe to mark the attraction’s 45th anniversary this year. Experience Rainforest Lumina for yourself, where a whole stretch of tropical rainforest will be lit with multimedia visual effects come nighttime.
