SINGAPORE RESTAURANT

Au Chocolat

The buzz: A recent arrival in Marina Bay Sands, this quaint confiserie and bistro offers French fare and sweet treats galore.

The vibe: Part whimsical, part Parisian style, the 92-seater is casual and bright, replete with vintage furniture, mosaic- tiled floor, marble-topped tables and an automated toy train moving along the suspended tracks on the ceiling.

The food: Head chef Elvin Chew has a knack for harmonizing the unexpected. Several dishes on the menu are, in one way or another, infused with chocolate, like the popular Eggs Benedict ($18) drizzled with a special Hollandaise sauce that’s made with red wine and dark chocolate, and the modern Nicoise ($20), a seared tuna salad dressed with chocolate vinaigrette. There’s a copious amount of dessert, including the decadent six-layer chocolate cake ($18), a massive slice built to be shared.

The drinks: As you’d expect, chocolate drinks are the bistro’s specialty and the smooth, creamy Au Chocolat fudge freeze ($12) is just the thing to beat the heat. There’s also a short list of teas (from $10) and wines (from $14) to sip on.

Why you’ll be back: It’s an easy sell for chocolate devotees, and also makes for a good pit stop while shopping.
