Founded in 1859, the 63.7-hectare Singapore Botanic Gardens is a key civic and community recreational park, an important national tourist destination as well as a leading tropical and horticultural institution, playing host to over 3 million visitors annually. The Gardens' extensive collection of more than 10,000 types of plants includes the National Orchid Garden, the most comprehensive collection of tropical orchids in the world.
