The buzz: Boutique yoga outfit Yoga Movement has opened its fourth studio, right in the heart of the hip Tiong Bahru enclave.

The vibe: A much smaller space than Yoga Movement’s other studios, the Tiong Bahru branch is essentially one big open plan area leading from reception, through the studio to the bathrooms and change rooms at the back (meaning it's a little noisier/less zen than you're used to). The space is classic Yoga Movement minimalism with polished concrete floors, chalk designs on the walls, dark interior accents and the brand’s signature black yoga mats.

The goods: The 30-mat studio attracts a mix of office workers and expat wives—everyone from corporates wearing old Standard Chartered Marathon sweat shirts to seasoned yogis decked out in head-to-toe Lululemon. The overall standard is high, we saw all kinds of flexibility and even the beginners didn’t seem all that beginner. The classes offered cover workout type as opposed to yoga style, with options like Yoga Core, Yoga Power and Yoga Basics. We liked that the classes came with a music soundtrack of old school classics and acoustic versions of pop hits, too. You can book a mat online (as well as see which instructors are taking which classes) with prices starting from $25 for a single class and $190 for a 10-class pack.

Why you’ll be back: If you’re a yogi (or wannabe yogi) looking for a laidback and intimate studio with some added hipster cred, Yoga Movement is for you.
