Casually lounging beside sister restaurant The Summerhouse at The Oval @ Seletar Aerospace Park is Wildseed, the equally English countryside-inspired cafe, patisserie and bar. It brings together all the big trends and trending players in Singapore's F&B: produce sourced from a local farm collective and kelong (ok, and Malaysia) and some on-site farming thanks to good ol' Edible Gardens and lots of other little touches. If you live nearby the area, or want to escape from the busy hustle, the place is great for a Friday night out with the girlfriends, or a weekend family brunch.
The menu is by the German-born chef Florian Ridder with salads, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, eggs and toast. Breakfast involves classics with a twist, such as sourdough kaya toast with sous-vide egg, gula melaka and coconut ($8) and a poached egg don with cured sea bass, chives, seaweed and brown rice ($14). Among the lunchy options, they have a pulled pork rye burger with German cabbage, cornichons, Dijon mustard and spring onion ($16) and the bavette pasta with rocket pesto, sous vide poached egg, ricotta and almonds ($16). Pastry chef Jasmin Chew does exotic desserts like the honey lemon rosemary tart and the ginger flower banana loaf (both $6.50).
Drinks come from the dapper Yadhaven Santheran: the Bloody Hotttt Mary, Boston’s Sourz, Masala Bourbon Chaiz (all a very reasonable $15). Wines start at $13 for a glass, and the coffee, roasted on-site by micro-roaster Nomad the Gallant, involves options like macchiato ($4), chai latte ($6) and sea salt caramel latte ($6).
