Boasting a beachside, tropical vibe to invoke memories of summer seaside vacations is Eastern Mediterranean cafe and bar Summerlong, located by the Singapore River at the busy Robertson Quay area. Expect a clean, white-washed space decked with plants, wooden tabletops and warm ambient lighting.

The menu, the work of Chef Justin Hammond of Keong Saik’s Neon Pigeon, features a range of sharing plates, seafood dishes and grilled eats plus brunch items on the weekends. The Roasted Sweet Potato & Chili Hummus ($7) or the creamy Greek Style Burratina ($16) with tangerine, coriander and honey are good for whetting the appetite, before moving onto their chef’s selection Seafood Platter ($75 for two or $140 for four people).

For fuller meals, their signature Persian Fried Chicken ($25), served with mint sauce, harrisa and dukkah to dip, and their Mediterranean Smoked Pork Ribs ($35) with pomegranate glaze and dukkah crust are solid options. Vegetarians can go for the Roasted Forest Mushroom Tagine ($21), which comes with zucchini and pine nuts, or the Charred Eggplant ($10) that comes with confit garlic, tomato and young basil.

There is also a cocktail bar specializing in refreshing but stiff drinks. For mid-day drinks, there is the Medius Terra Fizz ($15), made with Rosehip Gin, lemongrass, ginger and soda. Or simply go for the 3 Continents ($21), made using three rums, pineapple and passionfruit, and served in a coconut shell. A good selection of Mediterranean vinos and craft beers are also in stock.
