Singapore restaurant REVIEW:
Smokey's BBQ & Grill

When you have appetites as large as ours, you’d want to know all about the American-type diners that exist in Singapore too. We’d already gotten sick of our quintessential bowl of chili at Billy Bomber’s when we heard about this joint. So, imagine our delight when we found that it was every bit as American as the rumor mill promised.

The décor lends a very homely vibe to what looks like a traditional American barbecue grill house, and the sheer fact that you can walk around without banging into the chairs of other patrons makes you feel even more like you are in America—all that space.

If like us, you are also a fan of fish and chips, then go ahead and order the Hickory Smokey Fish & Chips. It’s so easy to find fault with this dish, especially since it is such common fare. The fish is always either too dry and crumbly, or the chips lie in a pathetic lumpy mess, but this one is well, there’s only one word for it: Hearty. We actually had to pick up each chip to savor it and the fish was crispy, tasty and most importantly, non-greasy. We loved that the batter contained Trader’s Brown Ale and that the fish was subtly smoked.

We were really looking forward to gnawing cowboy-style on the half-dozen Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese Dip but the wings disappointed us a little in terms of size. All we can say is, we’ve had bigger. Chef Rob later explained to us that this is the way it’s done in the US; buffalo wings are served in joint sections and not whole wings. Size aside, the robust flavors that went into the marination definitely scored.

If you’re a fan of pork, then you might want to order the Pulled Pork Sandwich. We hear the barbecue sauce that goes into it is delish. There are not many eateries in Singapore that serve Archipelago beer so we were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have to chug only Tiger or Heineken.

If you’ve had authentic American barbecued fare in the US, you’ve probably been hunting for a place in Singapore that does it just as well. Well, we’ve got a winner here.

Events Happening at Smokey's BBQ & Grill
During this happy hour, beer pints are $10 and jugs $26, and there are rotating drinks specials as well. For some mid-week madness, head down on a Wednesday, when happy hour lasts all night and buffalo wings are $1 each.
