Rang Mahal Chope

At this long standing fine dining Indian restaurant, we decided to check it out to see if anything had changed. The answer is—no. Everything at Rang Mahal is still as good as it used to be, and the menu is much the same.

A good range of curries is on offer, with lots of vegetarian options, lamb, chicken and prawn. Don’t underestimate the spiciness of North Indian food—as we did when we ordered a lamb rassa (thick red curry). It was fiery indeed but also delicious and full flavored. Our chicken kebabs too were spicy although they did not burn, fortunately! The potato, cauliflower and pea masala was excellent, as were the fragrant saffron pilau rice and garlic naans.

Wine drinkers will like the several wine pairing menus available, which is impressive for a non-Western restaurant. Even a whisky pairing menu is laid out for real novelty. Little new needs to be said about the décor: It is still beautiful and elegant with Indian features in stone and dark wood. At the entrance is a small lounge with comfy chairs where you can wait for your guests, which beats sitting at a table by yourself. Our servers were prompt, well informed and on the ball.

We’d recommend this restaurant anytime.
