Singapore restaurant REVIEW:
Oasis Chope

Open-air restaurant Oasis, boasts a warm atmosphere

Living up to its name, the open-air restaurant Oasis, located just next to the swimming pool, boasts a warm and relaxed atmosphere. And it was certainly warm when we popped by for lunch one sunny afternoon. The waiters, all garbed in bermudas and Hawaiian-influenced shirts, were fast, friendly and eager to please.

Oasis specializes in barbecued and grilled dishes, which is why we were a tad disappointed with its rather simple menu. We decided to skip appetizers because there was nothing much that appealed to us, and jumped straight to mains. The king prawns with stir-fried vegetables didn’t let us down. The prawns were big and fresh, and the oyster sauce that came with the vegetables went surprisingly well with the prawns. The nasi goreng was pretty good too, as the rice was flavorful and not too spicy, and a nice complement to the condiments comprising fried egg, fried chicken and satay.

We rounded our meal with the creamy and delicious chilled honeydew melon with sago and coconut—the perfect end to a satisfying meal. Throughout the course of our lunch, numerous hotel guests, gym members and even a Singapore Idol judge dropped by for a quick drink to try out Oasis’ many juices and healthy fruit blends, which are another hot favorite here. And this is how it’s best enjoyed—Oasis is more of a casual hangout than a serious restaurant.

When the weather is good, eating outside can be a truly enjoyable dining experience. These joints with charming open air areas are just the place to dine on breezy evenings.
