The Mushroom Pot
This family-friendly restaurant sells exactly what its name emphasizes—mushrooms. And despite the many changes going on in the vicinity, it still remains a stalwart.
We tried the signature hot pot buffet, which came with six soup options. Our wild mushroom soup was a good choice—the broth was appetizing and pleasantly aromatic. The buffet array kicked off to a good start with the flavorful house special of black pepper sliced pork with C.V. mushrooms.
The mushrooms were naturally the highlight of the hotpot—some unusual, some familiar, but all yummy. The seafood, chicken, pork and beef selections were reasonably varied, but sadly not all were tasty—the standard fare like meatballs, fillet, fish slices and squid tasted like what you would find at any coffee shop.
However, the shitake mushroom with meat paste was quite good—with the marinated beef being exceptionally tender and delicious. We also tried the wild mushroom fried rice and Shanghai stir-fried noodles, both of which were, sadly, nothing to shout about.
Our verdict—it’s a great choice if you love mushrooms, but if you don’t, your dollar could probably be better spent elsewhere.
