Talk about a bender.
The buzz: After nine years of spreading the word of good whisky from their home at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Quaich Bar has opened a second outlet. Set in South Beach Avenue, the retail section of the exciting new South Beach development, Quaich brings you the same whisky bar experience you know and love with a few bells and whistles.
The vibe: The interior of Quaich Bar at South Beach is dominated by what they call a “whisky light”, glass shelves filled with the whiskies they stock backlit by a white crystal light diffuser. A communal table made from Spanish ash adds a rustic touch while the lamp above it, shaped like a pot still, pays tribute to distilleries that make the spirit.
The drinks: Quaich Bar at South Beach has over 500 whiskies to offer with many of them – including some of the oldest and rarest – available by the glass. Proving that they’re a bar for whisky lovers run by whisky lovers, these glasses are priced according to the original cost at release and not according to the latest auction figures. Exciting drams include the rich, fruity Springbank 16 Year Old Local Barley ($38), the spicy Kilkerran Calvados Single Cask ($37) which is limited to just 60 bottles in Singapore and the creamy, herbaceous Glenglassaugh 40 Years Old Vintage 1973 ($156). All whiskies are served in 45ml gentleman’s pours though you can make a request for smaller measures. For beginners, the bar offers a number of tasting flights starting at $45 for four whiskies. As part of their opening celebrations, the introductory flight will cost just $25 until the end of October.
The food: Think bar bites with a big upgrade – a Scottish cheese plate ($21), Scottish smoked deep sea salmon ($24), jamon iberico (from $24) and more.
Why we’ll be back: Quaich Bar is constantly adding to the list of whiskies under their own Private Cask Selections label and we can’t wait to see what they uncover next. They’re so adept at identifying special casks that they even offer a Buy Your Own Cask service. That’s right, if you’ve ever wanted to start your own independent bottling operation, now is the time.
