Bringing Seoul to the South Beach

Any free-spirited creature who’s ever visited Seoul, Korea will have experienced her no-holds-barred nightlife culture at least once—cheap soju, pounding music, and dancing any day of the week till it’s time to switch your party pumps to work shoes. And if you’ve been craving for a taste of the reckless K-partying ever since, you’re in luck. Joining our consistently vibrant nightlife scene is new dance club 36, which promises to bring the authentic Korean clubbing experience to our shores.

Located in the heart of the South Beach Quarter complex in Bugis, 36 is a cozy, 2,500-sq ft space that holds up to 250 people. But what it lacks in size it makes up for in enthusiasm and originality. The decor takes inspiration from Korea’s Gangnam clubs, combining atmospheric neon UV lights, chrome poles and steel benches around the dance floor. Urban murals on the walls help create a raw underground ambience too.

For drinks, there’s the iconic Soju Bomb—imported from Korea and then made in-house. Otherwise, you can splash out on bottle service and champagne rituals, bound to add a little extra chaos to your Korean party night. Resident DJ Queenzell will helm the decks, dishing out a uniquely Korean repertoire of hits by Jay Park, G-Dragon, CL, Hyuna and more. On Wed, Fri and Sat nights however, it’s all about hip-hop, RnB, and open-format electro music, curated weekly by the 36 team.

On regular nights, ladies receive free entry, while cover charge is $30 for guys (two drinks included). Expect to see a fairly younger crowd; 36 is currently targeting young adults above 23, but going by the main demographic of the Korean clubbing craze, younger party-goers are bound to turn up too.

36’s opening comes hot on the heels of other smaller, themed dance clubs—such as Mao, Headquarters, and Avry. It might be a sign that revelers are starting to veer away from older institutions like Zouk; or it could just be that boutique clubs are the next big nightlife trend.

After all, all you need is a very small space to have fun.

36 is located at #02-02 South Beach Quarter, 36 Beach Rd. More information here
