Make way, science fiction fans. Frank Herbert’s sci-fi cult favorite novel Dune is making an appearance in Singapore—in the form of an art show at Kult Gallery, inspired by the 1965 novel and its fantasy world.

Happening from Dec 1-30, Dune: A Sci-fi Art Show will feature works from more than 15 artists across various disciplines, and bring to life Dune’s planet of Arrakis. Set in the distant future within a feudal interstellar society, the story is a larger narrative of politics, religion and human emotion—mixed in with ecology, technology, and control of Arrakis. The novel famously won the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel (now the highest honor a science fiction or fantasy novel can receive), and the title of the world’s best-selling science fiction novel in 2003.

But that’s not why you’re here. The works featured in the exhibition have been curated to resurface timeless issues of political strife, scientific progression and the future of artificial intelligence; all very much still relevant today. Participating artists include British artist Chris Foss, who will exhibit prints of actual spaceships and sets he designed for the intended film version of Dune, directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, which later fell through for financing reasons. Local artists like illustrator Howie Kim and Singapore-based creative duo kittozutto will be part of the line-up too.

Aside from the dreamy, surrealist works you’ll see, look forward to exploring an experiential virtual reality world in the gallery, created by video content-makers Six Degrees of Freedom. No spoilers here, but expect giant sandworms and the Shrine of Baron Harkonnen (the antagonist). And for the hardcore fans, a panel discussion (Dec 2) and documentary (Dec 9) will shed further insight on the realm of science fiction.

Dune: A Sci-fi Art Show will take place Dec 1-30 at Kult Gallery, 11 Upper Wilkie Road. More info here
