The iconic Red Dot Traffic Building will soon be giving way to the expansion of Maxwell Chambers at the end of this month on Apr 30. The 1928 neo-classical building will be refurbished to house 50 offices for law firms, arbitration chambers and dispute resolution institutions. Although there are plans to relocate the building somewhere else, nothing has been confirmed yet. Here are four things we'll miss about the iconic red building along Maxwell Road.

The eye-catching red facade

The conservation building used to be the traffic police's headquarters in the 1930s, and was painted red when it reopened in 2005 with the addition of Red Dot Design Museum within its premises. Now, it is going to be repainted back to its original off-white. Certainly not as eye-catching as before.

Quirky cocktail concoctions by Hopscotch

The drinks menu at Hopscotch often carried a touch of local influences, like with the Golden 933, an iterpretation of cereal prawns using cereal and butter fat-washed Angostura rum, a chilli tincture and curry leaves. We'll also miss the Tah Kiew Peng, a boozy version of everyone's childhood drink, Milo. Say goodbye to the bar on their last day of operations, on Apr 15, by hopping over to their farewell event

That monthly flea market

There may be many flea markets around, but MAAD was the one we could all count on for our regular dose of local crafts, artworks and homegrown music. It is also the longest running flea having been around since 2006. Where can we go to get our illustrations drawn now?

The actual Red Dot Design Museum

The museum, which hosted countless exhbitions since inception, had ceased operations on Mar 31. It was home to international works as well as edgy, eccentric exhibits created by winners of the Red Dot Design Awards. There are no exhibitions held there anymore, but you can still grab souvenirs from their museum shop that's doing a 60% clearance sale until Apr 16.
