Finally, a long weekend this month. But if you don’t have the luxury of time this April and plan to stay put, don’t fret. Mix up your busy schedule with a smorgasbord of events for a quick respite, as you’ll finally get to see music greats like Armin van Buuren, Coldplay, Santana and Cloud Nothings perform live. If you've always wanted to try out dishes from Singapore's Michelin-starred restaurants, there's a whole festival bringing together a couple of establishments under one roof. Also, the exciting Amoy Street Block party is back. So much to do this month!


Armin van Buuren

CONCERT
Your nightlife patron saint Armin van Buuren returns to Singapore, bringing his Armin Only Embrace World Tour to The Meadow, Gardens By The Bay for a one-night-only visual and aural spectacle. Apr 1

PARTY
If Armin van Buuren's epic show at The Meadow still isn't enough for you, there's an official afterparty at Ce La Vi where he'll be spinning for another full hour. Apr 1

CONCERT
Coldplay definitely caused a kerfuffle on the internet when tickets went on sale in Singapore. Due to an overwhelming response and with scalpers selling tickets at exorbitant prices, Coldplay announced a second date. All 100,000 tickets are all sold out, but you can still try your luck on Carousell or Facebook. Apr 1

BOOK
Veteran photographers like Paul Yeung and Chan Dick will be showcasing their photobooks (they're also up for sale) and exhibiting some of their works at HK/SG Photobook Exchange. There'll also be artist talks, slideshow presentations and forum sessions between Hong Kong and Singaporean photographers. Apr 1-2

BOOK
With #BuySingLit fronting the support local movement, at least on the literary front, it seems more bookstores in Singapore are surfacing and staging their own events. This time, BooksActually is having a pop-up. They’re gathering 11 local artists for a two-day literary talk, where you’ll also get to purchase their books. Apr 1-2

FILM
Head over to The Artistry to catch the screening of Singh In The Lion City, a short film that documents a Singaporean Sikh's self-discovery on a heritage trail, followed by a discussion by a panel of storytellers from the film, technology, theater and writing industries. Apr 2


SingJazz

FESTIVAL
Only in its fourth year, SingJazz has already earned a reputation for placing a heady mix of international and local artists on its bill. The fourth edition sees sets by Grammy Award-winning Corinne Rae Bailey, Esperanza Spalding, Gilles Peterson and many more. New this year is "The Late Show", where the party goes on indoors till the wee hours of the morning. Through Apr 2

PARTY
It's going to be a long weekend of hip hop, house, R&B, reggae and bass music, as music collective Singapura Dub Club and Southeast Asia' queen of reggae, Mas1a, host a debaucherous four-day spectacle of parties, film screenings, music performances and barbeques, all laced with nothing but good vibes. CONCERT
The world might have turned on its head when Satana teamed up with Rob Thomas for the seminal track “Smooth”, but this American Latin rock band has enjoyed many commercial successes way before that. They hold numerous awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. For their Transmogrify Tour 2017, expect a good mix of great tracks of yesteryears, as well as current and new material. Apr 4


Tippling Club's Sensorium Menu

DRINK
Tippling Club is taking it up a notch with The Sensorium Experience, a three-day immersive affair where you can enjoy tipples from the aroma-focused Sensorium menu and a classic five-course degustation menu in three unique rooms. Apr 4-6

PARTY
Unleash your inner teenage angst and bust out them eyeliners and skinny jeans for the ninth edition of Emo Night. Expect a lot of screaming, The Used, My Chemical Romance, a bit of moshing and one-for-one deals on beers and housepours all night long. Apr 6

FESTIVAL
If you're in the business of looking for a new, high-valued toy, or just have an eye for the finer things in life, head over to One Degree Fifteen to check out some of the world's finest superboats at this year’s Singapore Yacht Show. Apr 6-9

FESTIVAL
Astronomy lovers of Singapore, grab your mats and head over to Science Centre Singapore to get a glimpse of Jupiter in its entirety, followed by a movie screening under the stars. Apr 7

POETRY
The first migrant poet reading of the series organized by a fellow poet and Bangladeshi worker Md Mukul (author of Me Migrant) will bring together Singaporean and migrant poets like Rajib Shil Jibon, who took second place in the 2014 Migrant Workers Poetry Competition, and Pooja Nansi, Singapore's first youth poet ambassador. Zouk Singapore

PARTY
Your favorite dynamic duo Adrian Wee & KiDG are back for their iconic Poptart night of indie-flavored everything, from Queen to The Killers, at Zouk. Get your dancing shoes ready. Apr 8

CONCERT
Camila Cabello’s exit from Fifth Harmony may have been one riled with drama and confusion, but that’s not stopping the rest of them from bringing “The 7/27” Tour to Singapore. Formed by Simon Cowell on The X Factor U.S.A., the group’s triple-platinum certified first single “Work from Home” catapulted them into the the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The follow-up singles “All In My Head (Flex)” has also been certified platinum while “That’s My Girl” went on to become a top 40 hit. Apr 8

EXHIBITION
Singapore photographers Liana Yang and Lavender Chang will be presenting Pet Me, Pet Me, Look at Me, Love Me—images exploring ideas regarding intimacy and longing, all inspired by written works. Along with the exhibition are workshops and conversations with other artists, held at The Arts House. Through Apr 12

THEATER
Revisit the swinging ‘60s with this sexy musical set in a nightclub on Orchard Road. Funny, bittersweet and brimming with nostalgia, Tropicana The Musical recreates Singapore from a bygone era. Apr 13-30

FOOD
Taking place at The Coliseum at Resorts World Sentosa, the inaugural edition Michelin Guide Street Food Festival will bring together 12 Michelin-starred and Bib Gourmand-listed establishments including Joel Robuchon Restaurant, Shoukouwa and Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle. Apr 14-15

MARKET
One of Bangkok's most popular outdoor markets, Artbox, will be making its way to Bayfront Event Space (next to Marina Bay Sands). As its first outpost, they've teamed up with Invade to host the market across two weekends, so expect to find all the trendy clothes, drinks, food and craft stalls, along with live music and photo spots, that made it so successful in Bangkok. Apr 14-16 & 21-23

FESTIVAL
Get the lowdown on Singapore’s indie music scene at the all-day and all-night City65 Music Festival happening at Tin Hill Social Kitchen & Bar, with performances by Stopgap, Dru Chen, Jack and Rai, and many others. Apr 15

THEATER
A critically-acclaimed production that had a sold-out debut run in 2015, Normal tells the story of two Singaporean students who don’t achieve conventional academic success. Through Apr 16


World Gourmet Summit 2016

FESTIVAL
One of Singapore's most anticipated food festivals has returned for its 21st edition. The World Gourmet Summit will feature top notch international and local chefs who will take take center stage to create bite-sized gastronomy and degustation dinners. Rest assured there'll be tons of events and workshops to sign up for, like a mescal degustation masterclass, an Argentine food workshop and more. Through Apr 16

CONCERT
Four years ago, Cloud Nothings rocked the stage and charmed their audiences at Laneway Festival. Their return to Singapore couldn’t be more timely, especially with the release of their latest record last January, Life Without Sound. Apr 18

THEATER
Wild Rice has pulled all the stops for the Singapore adaptation of iconic musical, La Cage Aux Folles. Starring Ivan Heng in fabulous drag, the play is set in La Cage, a famous nightclub in Tanjong Pagar, which a conservative politician wants to shut down. Confusion and hilarity ensues when the son of the nightclub’s host decides to marry the politician’s daughter. Apr 19-May 2

ART
This edition of ArtScience Late sees a collaboration with Ethos Books to showcase a night of anti-realist fiction and to uncover the many unknowns of the universe through a series of theater pieces and experiential art. Apr 20

PARTY
The exciting Amoy Street Block Party returns after a successful edition in last Nov, featuring friendly neighbors like Ding Dong, Birds of a Feather, Employees Only, Le Binchotan, Burger Joint and more on-site serving up delicious bite-sized food and tipples. There’ll also be line-up of exciting local and international names who’ll be performing (to be announced soon). Apr 21

CONVENTION
Get yourself a permanent piece of body art at this year's Singapore Ink Show, with about 150 tattoo artists coming from all over the world, such as Nikko Hurtado, who specializes in colored portraits; Horei Shinshu, the Japanese artist who is famous for his vibrant four seasons designs; as well as our very own Kelvin Leow of The Standard Tatoo Company and Red Sun Tattoo Art's Weifong Daniel who’ll be repping the Singapore contingent. FILM
Challenge yourself and take part in this year's 48 Hour Film Project, where you'll be given only two days to conceptualize, cast, shoot and edit a short film with a super tight timeline of two days. The winning film will compete against other films from around the world at Filmapalooza 2018 for a chance to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival next year. Apr 21-23

HEALTH
Local support group Oogachaga is organizing a fundraising yoga session at Yoga Inc where instructors Amanda Koh and Tom Condon will lead two different classes. All proceeds will help the organization to continue supporting Singapore’s LGBTQ+ community. Apr 22

COMEDY
Take a break from your daily grind and have yourself a weekend of laughs at Singapore Comedy Fringe Festival, with names like Harith Iskander, Jimeoin and Kumar taking the stage. Apr 28-30


Singapore Art Book Fair

BOOK
Major art events like the Singapore Design Week and #BuySingLit may have just passed, but you can continue your cultural pursuits at the annual Singapore Art Book Fair, which returns for its fourth year. This edition features over 40 exhibitors, including an entire section on women zines and return vendors like local photographer Robert Zhao. Apr 28-30

CONCERT
After making their debut at Zouk three years ago, electronic music duo Bondax is back to play at Millian Singapore. They began experimenting with electronic music when they met in school. But ever since BBC Radio gave their music some airtime, they’ve risen through the ranks and have landed on the radars of many discerning listeners. Apr 29

EXHIBITION
Calling all Harry Potter fans—if you’re in withdrawal after reading Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts, time to ooh and aah over some Harry Potter stamps, prop replicas, toys and other memorabilia from private collectors all around the world at the Singapore Philatelic Museum. Through Jun 25

FOOD
Goodwood Park Hotel's annual durian festival returns, unfrazzled by the suspension and food poisoning cases last year, with all-time favorites like durian puffs and crepes and and new creations like designer cakes shaped after the fruit itself. Through Jul 31
